Bender Reprises Its Role In Futurama

Published on 24 Feb 2022

John DiMaggio has confirmed that he would reprise his role as Bender in Hulu's resurrection of Futurama, which means that all of the show's core cast members will return to their roles in the sci-fi animation. When the show's return was announced earlier this month, it was announced that Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom, among many others), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy) would all reprise their roles from the previous season.

According to Deadline at the time, DiMaggio's character was in the process of being recast at the time of publication. In the first instance, the actor allegedly turned down the offer because he believed it "was not competitive in light of the popularity and name recognition of the original series." Fans were furious (of course), and the hashtag #Bendergate was created (of course), and DiMaggio himself rushed to Twitter to provide a more detailed explanation.

DiMaggio’s Take

"I don't believe that I am the only one who should be paid more. I believe the whole cast feels the same way. Negotiations are an unavoidable element of the job description in the entertainment industry. DiMaggio said in a statement that everyone has a different method and has set their own personal limits. "It's all about self-respect," DiMaggio said. And, to be honest, I'm fed up with a business that has become much too corporate, and that takes advantage of artists' time and skills."

When the news of his return reached DiMaggio, he responded with a more upbeat tone than one would expect. As DiMaggio put it, "I'm very thankful for the love and support I've received from fans and colleagues alike during this whole process (particularly from my wife, Kate), and I cannot wait to go back to work; with my Futurama family." "The #Bendergate controversy has come to an end." According to Deadline, DiMaggio's compensation increase is said to have been "modest at best '' after the conclusion of discussions.

Where To Stream Futurama

The next 20-episode season, which is planned to premiere on Hulu in 2023, will be the third time the science fiction series has been brought back to life. Its initial run on Fox was terminated after four seasons. Still, the program was eventually resurrected in the form of four direct-to-DVD movies played on Comedy Central and its original airing on Fox. After that, the network authorized fresh seasons of the show, which began airing in 2010 before being canceled the following year.
