Xiaomi’s latest handset, the Mix 4 had an incredibly successful launch on the 16th of August and racked up sales of $46.3 million.
One of China’s biggest tech companies, Xiaomi aims to become the largest smartphone maker in the world within the next three years. Recently Xiaomi overtook Apple to gain the second spot on the list of largest mobile brands. South Korea-based Samsung currently holds the top spot.
Xiaomi’s statement at the launch of the Mix 4 handset
Founder and Chief executive at Xiaomi, Lei Jun gave a prior to the launch of the company’s new Mix 4 handset during an online event. In his speech, he said, "Our current task is to cement the number two position in the global market. We aim to become the global number one in three years." Xiaomi is celebrating its 10th year since the launch of its first smartphone.

Research firm IDC released data about the global handset market. According to the numbers, Xiaomi has overtaken Apple and become the second-largest smartphone maker globally. Xiaomi has a 17% share of the global handset market as compared to Apple’s 14.1%. Samsung’s market share decreased a little bit. However, it still holds the number one spot with an 18.8% market share.
New products entering Xiaomi’s lineup
During the event, Xiaomi also unveiled a slew of new products. These included its latest television, a new tablet computer, a smart speaker, its new Mix 4 smartphone and surprisingly a four-legged robot that has been dubbed the Cyberdog. At the beginning of the year, Xiaomi also announced that it plans to invest $10 billion over the coming 10 years to develop and sell electric vehicles.

Xiaomi’s Mix series is known for being innovative and using cutting-edge technology. The company has continued that trend with the release of Mix 4. The Mix 4 is Xiaomi’s first smartphone with an under-screen camera. This means that there is no notch or pop-up camera, the camera sits under the phone’s screen. The Mix 4 will continue to have a ceramic body that is tougher and more durable than glass. The flagship handset will be available in three colors: ceramic white, ceramic black, and shadow blue-grey.
The Mix 4 is currently out of stock and supply will continue to be constrained over the coming months. The Mix 4 uses a Snapdragon 888 chip which is not easily available at the moment.
